Playing in the early 1960s line-up of the Johnny Mathis band gave Cunningham chance to visit travel to the Carribean, Fiji, Australia, and Hawaii. Having grown-up in the less-exotic city of St Louis, MO Cunningham was inspired to take the new exciting sights and sounds experienced on his travels into the studio.
